Rafael Alvarez is an author whose work -- eleven books of fiction and non-fiction -- concentrates on life in the City of Baltimore.
A former City Desk reporter for the Baltimore Sun, Alvarez wrote for the first three seasons of the HBO drama "The Wire." He is known for the epic love story, "Orlo and Leini," and in 2007 published "A People's History of the Archdiocese of Baltimore."
In early summer of 2017, Alvarez will release the 20th anniversary edition of his first collection of short fiction, "The Fountain of Highlandtown." The new volume includes eight new tales to accompany the award-winning title story.
Alvarez is currently at work on a novella titled, "Orlo the Chicken Necker."
He lives and writes from the Greektown neighborhood of East Baltimore.
